Boosha

Here is my latest Painting. Boosha. I think this one is really different. I did something that I don't do, and that's great. Tell me how you like it or if you don't, still say something...ha ha! BOOSHA!

The Animation Conclave

Teams can be formed online. Yes. and this is our endeavor. I will not say much but I can tell you this is the Rebel, this is the Sharing and this is Teamwork. And its fun. Find out on the blog itself.

Be a Rebel

Now the waters up to the nose. I am fed up of devouring pathetic stories about those pathetic so called institutes having their pathetic deluding and deceiving ways to earn money in the name of Animation Education. Innocent young minds are unaware and then they are ripped off by some promising, as they call themselves, school who just focus on filling their own tummies. Faculties themselves have no production education and just teach some tools outta the software and send students home. Those who Guarantee jobs, and students are stupid to believe them first, never keep their word obviously, and some don't even hand over the course completion certificate (As though their Certificate is gonna matter) saying that the students were unable to reach up to their standards and didn't complete their work.
Then students are bedazzled and thrown to the streets and they mourn over how their Lacs were wasted for nothing. I saw many cases. And I have to say .... STAND UP AGAINST THEM.
I know how it feels when you are betrayed and misleaded on your career path. But cryings not gonna help. Fight for it. Fight for your right. Start a REBEL.
And this is what I thought I could do for now. Wallpapers! I sketched it in Photoshop :-)

This is currently HD (1920*1080) format. I will soon upload the standard 1024*768 one. Please help by forwarding this to all the pain stricken Animators you know. Happy Animating!
PS: click on the image to download the HD size.

Roborade

Here's the second installment. I think this is much better than the previous one. Much more to Model, Texture, Rig and Animate. I'll add up some Transformation features and details in the design.
It looks nice as a wallpaper by the way.

Extra Time Doodles

I have made a habit of this you know. But its good.
I am Practicing Character Animation and I spend most of the time on it, and whenever I need a break....I sit with my lovely Tablet and scribble around. These are the result I get some times.....Rough work, But I enjoy sketching them. The First one is a try for clouds and the second one is the proposition for modeling ( I had a reference in mind while making it. I loved it). Lets see if our Modeler would like to Model it.

Tell me.

The Ghost Lake

Mist and peace and some mystery lurking....
I am working on this ghost lake. Simple and stylistic, but this is just the first draft...I mean there is no ghost yet...he he he! Planning on having a boat with a ghost in it sailing to nowhere. . . . .lets see. Any suggestions on ideas are welcome.

Improvising

Nothin to tell.....I watched an Oscar winning short film, 'The old womann and the Pigeons' and was inspired by it.
That evening when I sat to sketch this style and this house just came up....glad it did, I liked this one..:-)

Flipbook

Nah! I am not writing about the software...though its one of the best tool I used.
Flipbook tempts me to draw and animate more and more...and its so easy. Here are some tests I did and the first ever complete walk cycle in 2d...haha! I did those before but this seems a bit complete...tell me how you like it.

Exploring

A great explorer like Bruno in 'The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas' inspires you without seeming like it but just doing it sometimes without knowing or even wanting not to know but still pursue what you feel is what I learnt from that beautiful film.
One thing definitely to do in life is to be the Greatest Explorer you can be....

Sketches

More random sketches....
I got Adobe Photoshop Elements with my Wacom and by just looking at the interface you want to sketch and paint something.

The Cubes

Here we go making films on our vacations!
Sumit was here in Kolhapur for vacations and we were planning on some fun business and then just decided out of the blue to make a Clay film, and we had our first shot at DIALOGUE animation in stop motion. This gag took 2 days to make and it was FUN. Sumit and Tanmay P made the set and lighting set up and I did the animation. Finally figured out, again by myself, how to SYNC lips in stop motion where you don't exactly get the Timeline like Maya or something. We thought of the whole series but I don't know...Hope when we'll be together again, we'll make the series....perhaps on vacations again....ha ha!

Bard

'Bard, a fighter, had won duels spectacularly in his days and was a glorious idol for many. But now forgotten and old, his life has nothing to offer him.... until......'
I was just doodling with my new Wacom when I met him. A great Accident. I created a character just like that and now he is alive in my mind. I have a story to tell and he is the protagonist.
I don't know what am I gonna do about it. I'll write the script or I will not. I hope I will. Let's see.

Painted

OK.....can't stop myself. Wacom Rocks!
Painted the previous sketch....fast.
took around 20 min. tell me.

Wacom Intuos 4 - Sketches

I GOT IT!....YIPEEE!
A new WACOM INTUOS 4 ....ha ha!....
Its so sexy and its magic. Cant tell how happy I am to have it.....the best tool I ever had.
Here are some ten min sketches I did..THIS IS JUST THE START.

Charlie Walk

Good Old Charlie...Ha ha!
Really enjoyed making this....I came across some great Charlie Music Libraries because of this. And I really really want a Wacom DESPERATELY.....Can somebody donate it....?...anybody?...hello?..Oh ..oh wait!..where are you all going?!!!

My First Flipbook Animation, with a mouse. -_-

My first Flipbook Animation. Straight Ahead. DONE WITH A MOUSE! Gosh I really jumped like him bcoz of frustration. Can't draw a line without making 3 to 4 attempts. Gotta get a Wacom soon. Hope you like it! :-)

Cleo

A new character design. Smart (by mind), kind but naughty, loves Hip Hop and playing games on his comp and hates school.
Again I did this sketch long time back, and actually I did many. Its a habit of mine to make such doodles anytime and forget about it. (Bad I know). But yeah, I am still going through  my old work and finding things......Will post some more if I find something interesting. Hope you like this one!

Run GHOST Run!

My dad says I always tend to go with ghost stories...whenever we used to make short films with my handycam (timepass wale) I used to get good horror ideas. what else should we do when we have one night to shoot and our room or our house? And even when I made my first animated gag, it was a funny GHOST story...ha ha! Maybe my Dad is right.
This is my recent doodle. I had made the sketch long ago and I just filled it in with colors. (My Net connection was out and I was getting bored...but it helped.. he he!)

Hope you like it! tell me :-)

Snaps!

Hi there! I was going through some of my old data last night and gosh, you always find something interesting when you explore your ancient cupboard or a drawer or a shelf or even under your bed, dressed in spider webs and bathed in dust. You blow, sneeze and look, there they are.....old  memories!
These are some snaps I shot long ago when I had a good quality cam, which was a sufficient reason to make me constantly look with wide eyes and shoot what seems interesting...to me at least. Here are some of them....

      Hope you like em! :-)
PS: I'll be writing the next one in the series of MY INSPIRATIONS soon.

My Inspirations - Jason Ryan

Seems like I am going to write a series huh? Yes, it is precise.
I thought of writing about some of the great Animation Industry veterans from which we learn SO MUCH and seldom give credit to. The GODS like Walt Disney, Hayao Miyazaki, John Lesseter, Glen Keane, Chuck Jones, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera and many more. But I think I will start with someone Character Animation specific as I recently am very much elated about it. Ladies and Gentlemen, Presenting, JASON RYAN!

Jason Ryan was a supervising animator at Walt Disney studios for almost twelve years and now a Supervising animator at Dreamworks studios. He worked on films like Fantasia, Magic Lamp, Chicken Little and many more.Check out his website here. Now I know. If I am to write his biography here, nobody will be interested because you can find it anywhere on the web. But I am not writing that anyway. I want tell you all how much he inspired me. If you will go to his site, you will understand that he loves to teach. He believes in an 'Over the shoulder' learning method and that is why he made those Marvelous Video Tutorials which are available on his site and he also holds regular webinars teaching Character Animation.
Yes, life is to learn from video Tutorials. It would be really great if I could learn from someone who is a master in this art. It would just be so terrific if I could learn from someone sitting right next to me, watching him move life. Someone who can guide me, tell me where I am going wrong, SHOW me the right way to do it. But that is a dream now I assume. Nobody is there yet. Or I am not there. I haven't found any teachers in any institute here who will really TEACH animation. You beg for it, you crave for it, but a real MENTOR is hard to find. So the next best thing you can do is VIDEO TUTORIALS. Self Learning is the way.
I just love the way Jason Ryan does those shots. He first animates the entire thing in 2D with just stick figure and then go ahead in Maya and animate it in 3D. You get to see the entire process based on strong 2D animation foundations and see every tinsy minsy details he puts according to the principles. Its really like watching him then and there and learning a great deal. I never knew there is so much in a Walk Cycle until I watched his tutorial.
I recommend you check out his site and also go the webinar section and download those free RAMPUPS which are short tutorials teaching Basics of animation and more. Just Fantastic!

Dialogue Shot - Updated

Here...I have added some blinks and a tiny footstep movement as suggested on 11 Sec Club.
Tell me how you like it and any further more improvements I can do.

My First Dialogue Shot

Here it is at last. My first dialogue shot. Its not completed totally, but after the critiques and comments, I will add or remove and its done. I did this shot to test the water. I know it is not good to skip many of the steps and jump on a higher level as DIALOGUE SHOTS, but I couldn't resist. I just gave it a try annndd its done. I will definitely go back to the body mechanics exercises (Pull assignment, planning in the below post).

Please comment and tell me and let me improve on it. Your comments and suggestions are more than welcome and will help me push myself.

Pull Animation Planning - Classical

Before going to 3d, I thought of making it in 2d so as to understand it much better. I did the planning and made this in a day on Lightbox and shot it with my own Custom made Line Tester...(I would like to mention that even if it is unnecessary...don't ask me why..I MADE IT!)
Now I am ready to do it in 3d.

Comic Con 2009 - San Diego

Well when you see the title, you'd think that I was there. However I would like to give you that impression willfully, but the truth is I WAS NOT THERE. (As you all know very well already)
Why I decided to write is because I feel so jealous. I just wish, if there is any scope left to already due my large list, that I could BE there. This is soooooo amazing!

So many things to do there. Such a huge network, such crazy fans and all the great professionals and our celebrities who are the real creators present there. Almost every big studio is present, Lucas film, dreamworks, Marvel, Disney, Animation mentor (School)....whoooossshhhh! Great!
Read this article by Shawn Kelly and you'll be as excited as I am. So much inspiration there. I was inspired by just reading Shawn's fabulous article. check it out.
http://www.animationmentor.com/newsletter/0809/feature_geek.html#tipTrick
Why doesn't it happen here. I can imagine meeting the great crowd where everyone is an animation enthusiast, artist, or a fan. Crazy bunch of people. Some cool seminars, lectures, Panel discussions, and taking autographs from Gods like Glen Keane and Eric Goldberg. So much to learn.
Anifest and CG meet ups do happen here in India, but I never had a chance to go in the Biggies. Next time, I sure will.

I am in the NEWS

Hey I am in the daily prophet!

I know I know...it doesn't look like me, but its really my photo. I've uploaded it on the HP site and used the prophet editor. You can be on it too. check it out.
Gosh I can't stop laughing. But I am in the Headlines...he he!.HA HA ..really funny!

I Move On

Late night, 12:50 am, (morning already), silence with the hum of CPU fan, the cluttered desk and me with pinched eyes. perfect time to write. Just wish for a cup of coffeeeee though. well, hi there folks! as usual, long time.
One more milestone in my career. I have left the place where I used to work. My entire team did. We are out of the Zoo into the Jungle on our own will. I'll not mention why, but it doesn't matter now. I wanted, or rather we wanted to pursue our own dreams, learn some more before we WORK. Develop the skills in which we are in between and push the art further. Its not that this was not happening when we were there, but it was not happening the way we wanted to. Now we are out. Wild. Running wherever. But yes, on the right track.
Do you know that I intent to specialize in Character Animation? Or I was (so called) specializing in it? yeah, wondering huh? I did everything else than that. Of course everything else was great. It made me a better artist. A person who could handle multiple things. I can draw, make concepts, design character, do video editing, design graphic art as posters, web layouts, bookmarks, templates, make presentations, Write, make storyboards, make layouts and etc etc.. many of the fellows at that place didn't even knew what exectly do I do. But the thing is. I WANT TO DO CHARACTER ANIMATION. And I did a little of that. Now, I want to sit in peace, focus on what I want and do it with my entire soul in it. That's my goal. That's my decision. That's my one and only one direction now.

Am I scared? Turned down good paying jobs. Turned down the settled path to the career? No. I am not. None of our team is. Kept a huge supply of confidence with us when we came out. I can smell the essence of wild. I can sense the hunters outside. But we are aware of the sound of the slightest of ruffling leaves.
Sounds creepy the way I write it doesn't it? Ha! That's what happens when I write in the dead of night. Feeling exactly like Harry when he left Vernon's house with Sirius Black lose on the streets. Sitting alone on a bench of Private drive. Possibly the dark lord is there too....

PULL

So here is it guys, Now gonna do the Pull Animation.
Below is my planning for the animation.

Its a guy who walks whistling towards the door, as he reaches he push the door open but at that moment a girl passes by the screen. immediately he looks at her and stands in a COOL pose leaning on the door frame.
Because of the recoiling device (i don't know what else to call it), the door slams back and his hand gets stuck inbetween. He yells and desperately tries to pull it off.....and there is the Pull Assignment.

Pushed it Further

HULLA HALLOOAA.....You may know the Push Assignment I did before and posted below...
Well, I really Pushed it further.
I added some story, some gag, some performance in it and now it is something. I am sorry I don't have much of a in progress images or planning sketches as I did this WITHOUT planning actually (well I should have...). I am posting the final film clip and some images.
Next time I will definately post WIP images and planning sketches and all
Hope you enjoy this one.

Bonsai

As usual, big gap.
Hiya
this is just an excersise i did with Photoshop trying making custom brushes. It came out pretty fine so I thought to put up here.
I am working all time on our own project ...which is confidential. And thats why I am unable to upload anything for a long time.
When I'll be free.....I'll post again....Hope it will be soon.:-(
He he he...See ya!
OK! There you go, my new work.
These are some quick doodles mostly finished in almost 20 to 30 minutes. The intention was to study and use INTERNATIONAL COLORS. As I am involved in an International DemoReel project, I have to study the modern colors.
These are some characters WITH a story...which I will say later...
